Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of Henry Hebard West, Jr. posing outside his quarters while stationed in Dutch Harbor during World War II. H. H. West, Jr. stands in front of his quarters at center. He stands on the front step of the barracks and looks to the camera while donning rubber boots and a jumpsuit. To the left, the bottom half of a Dutch door stands open towards camera and H. H., Jr. rests his arm over it. The top half of the door is also open, but the interior of the barracks is in shadow. The front of the Quonset hut stands behind H. H., Jr. It enters frame at left and extends behind and to the right of H. H. West, Jr. The right edge of the barracks curves up towards the left. A window sits directly behind H. H., Jr. A number plate on its frame reads, "24." Snow-covered mountains are visible in the far distance at right. Text from negative sleeve: 2000.
