Photograph of H. H. West, Jr. standing in a patch of snow and posing with a rifle outside his quarters while stationed in Dutch Harbor during World War II. H. H. West, Jr. stands in the near distance at center. He is dressed in his military uniform and takes a wide legged stance while holding his rifle over his shoulder and looking to the camera. He stands in a patch of snow that covers the ground around him and extends back to the left. Behind H. H., Jr., the side of a Quonset hut stretches across the image. It enters frame at right. It is constructed of corrugated sheet metal and has an arced roof. From the roof, a narrow chimney stands at right; dark smoke billows from it. A low hill covered in patches of snow stands in the distance at left.
