Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of 3 fellow servicemen of H. H. West, Jr.'s posing on the walkway in front of their quarters while stationed at Dutch Harbor during World War II. A walkway of wooden slats enters frame from the lower left corner and stretches through the image on a slight upward angle towards center. It then extends back to the left towards the front door of the Quonset hut-style barracks. Three servicemen stand on the corner of the walkway leading up to barrack's door. A man in uniform stands on the walkway at center and wraps an arm over the shoulder of the man standing at left. Another man stands to the right of the man at center and places his hand in his pocket. All look to the camera. The front of the barracks (partial view) stands behind and to the left of the group. It is viewed at an angle from the front; it faces right. Snow-covered mountains rise in the distance at center and right. Text from negative sleeve: 2025.
