Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of Mertie West looking for Mt. McKinley (now Denali) from an overlook at Camp Eielson (now the Eielson Visitor Center). A flat area of gravel and dirt stretches along the bottom edge. Mertie West stands in this area at center. She faces slightly right and looks off to the right for Mt. McKinley. Behind and below her, the park's landscape sprawls into the background. Streams cut through the lowlands just beyond Mertie. In the far distance, the snow-covered mountains of the Alaska Range rise. Text from negative sleeve: 2161. Alaska Trip. Camp Eilsen [sic] Aug.17,1946 1. 21 sheep on side of mountain. 2. Our bus at summit of pass and our road. 3. Some of the scenery. 4.
