Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of a totem pole standing along the roadside and next to a house in Saxman, Alaska. A road appears to slope down from right to left as a sliver of it passes along the bottom edge. The totem pole stands on the far side of the road, left-of-center, and is viewed at a slight angle from the front. Three figures are carved into the pole. They are, from bottom to top: a fish, a bird and an unidentifiable mammal. In front of the totem pole, a small headstone juts up from the ground. The back end of a car is visible entering frame to the left of the totem pole. A shorter totem pole stands behind the car. It is topped with a carved bird figure. At right, a house stands in partial view along the frame. The totem pole and house are surrounded by overgrown grasses. Tree-covered mountains rise in the background. Text from negative sleeve: 2176.
