Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. An out-of-focus photograph of Filipino men playing instruments in front of a ship docked in Metlakatla, Alaska. The ship stretches across the image in the near distance. It enters frame at left and stretches back towards the right, into the distance. The ship is viewed at an angle from the side. Three decks are visible. Lifeboats line the edge of the upper deck. Cranes and rigging stand atop the far end of the ship. Passengers line the rails of the promenade decks. The dock runs parallel to the ship and extends to the right of it. People sit along the left edge of the dock. All face towards the right. A few people stroll across the dock. The musicians appear to sit in the far end of the dock. One is visible holding a guitar. In the foreground at left, a wooden post extends vertically through the image. Mountains are visible in the background at right. Text from negative sleeve: 2184. Alaska Trip. Metlakatla Sept.16,1946 1. Philipinos [sic] playing guitar and banjo 2. Close up of same
