Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. A high-contrast photograph of Hotel Johnson in Red Oak, Iowa, as viewed at an angle from the side. A brick-paved street stretches back on an angle from the lower left corner and to the right. On the far corner, Hotel Johnson stands. It is viewed at an angle from the side and faces towards the left. A large tree along the left edge partially obscures the front of the hotel. Over the porch at far left, a sign reads, "HOTEL." The side of the hotel stretches back in tiers towards the right. It stands 3-storeis tall. A porch lines the center of the hotel along the first-floor. Lettering over the porch at center reads, "HOTEL JOHNSON." At the back of the building, a vertical sign reads, "HOTEL." Three cars are parked along the street that passes next to the hotel. All face towards the left. Along the bottom edge, a written and washed-out caption reads, "HOTEL JOHNSON RED OAK, IA. 3777." Text from negative sleeve: 2235. Red Oak, Iowa, Nov.22, 1946 1. East Side Square showing the old Rynearson opera house 2. Same, from south side showing Fisher's old grocery store now Spurgeons [sic] 3.
