A high-contrast photograph looking from the west towards the south side of the town square in Red Oak, Iowa. Coolbaugh Street spans the width of the bottom edge and angles back towards the left. Cars are parked, side-by-side, on an angle along the right side of the street; all face away from the camera. Beyond them, buildings line the right side of the street, extending on an angle back towards the left. They are all viewed at an angle from the front and face left. From nearest to furthest, signage identifying the stores and businesses read: "THOMSEN HARDWARE," "DRUG STORE," "F. W. WOOLWORTH CO 5 AND 10 CENT STORE," "[???] CLOTHES SHOP," "[???] BEER," "SEIFEL'S," [some illegible], and "ELLWOOD'S." A written, washed-out caption along the bottom edge reads, "SOUTH SIDE SQUARE RED OAK, IOWA B439."
