Photograph of Mertie West standing in Boston Common and reading the Boston Common Tablet. A walkway through the park stretches along the bottom edge . Mertie West stands on the walkway, just right-of-center. She stands with her back to the camera as she looks slightly upward to read the Boston Common Tablet. The bronze tablet is mounted along the back edge of the walkway and is surrounded by a low, wrought-iron fence. A woman at right holds a newspaper as she leans on the fence. She faces towards camera. Beyond the tablet, a taller, wrought-iron fence lines the Common's edge. Cars park along Park Street behind it. Park Street Church stands across the background.
