Mertie West stands at the intersection of garden walkways, right-of-center. She looks to the camera. Low hedges line the walkways and line the bottom edge of the image. Foliage enters the foreground along the left edge. Behind Mertie, the brick, garden wall stretches across the background, enclosing the garden. Some shrubbery stands along the back edge of the garden, in front of the wall. Neighboring buildings rise behind the wall. Text from negative sleeve: 2352. Eastern trip October 1947 Boston 1 Mertie West on corner below Old State House. At her left in the street is the cobblestone circle marking the site of the Boston massacre. It is right behind the auto 2 & 3 Two views of Mertie West reading the printed sign in Old South Church. It said that George Washington came into the Church after he drove British out entering thru a door in the balcony at right 4 Mertie West and caretaker and guard introphy [sic] and relic room of Fanueil [sic] Hall 5 & 6 Two pictures of Mertie West at the Public Market 7 & 8 Two views of tablets in wall of cemetery of Old North Church One with Mertie West
