Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. An out-of-focus photograph of Mertie West posing outside the First Church of Christ, Scientist's southern facade in Boston. A brick-paved walkway extends along the bottom edge. Mertie West stands in the near distance at left, along the back edge of the walkway. She stands in profile facing right, but turns her head to the camera. Immediately behind her, a wide, short set of steps, flanked by lampposts on pedestals, descends behind her. From the steps, the walkway stretches back on an angle towards the left side of the church. To the right of the walkway, a small, landscaped lawn sits in front of the church. The First Church of Christ, Scientist stands in the background, off-center to the left. It is viewed at a slight angle from its southern facade. A half-dome, lined with arched windows, extends towards camera. A white haze washes over the majority of the image. Two streaks of bright, white light crisscross at center.
