Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. NRHP reference # 66000137 Photograph, from left to right, of a caretaker and Mertie West posing on the lawn outside of Buckman Tavern in Lexington. The front lawn stretches across the foreground and mid-ground. In the near distance, Mertie West and an unidentified woman stand side-by-side at center. Both look to camera. At right, Mertie clutches her purse and, at left, the caretaker holds a small stick that points up and to the left. Behind her, a few folding chairs sit on the lawn. Buckman Tavern (partial view) stands across the background. It is viewed at a slight angle from the front and enters frame from left. Behind the caretaker, the tavern's front door is capped by a pediment decorated with dentils. Pane-glass windows extend to the right of the door across both the ground- and second-stories. Each window is framed by shutters. Tree branches entering frame at right obscure part of the tavern. A round, blurry patch sits in the bottom right corner. Text from negative sleeve: 2356.
