Photograph of Mertie West standing at the base of the National Monument to the Forefathers in Plymouth, Massachusetts. A grassy expanse stretches across the bottom edge and slopes upward as extends into the distance. At the top of the hill, the National Monument to the Forefathers stands at center. The allegorical statue is viewed at an angle from the back. Three seated figures representing, from left to right: Law, Education and Liberty, surround the bottom of the octagonal base. The figures face outward from the statue. Tablets are inset into the sides of the plinth, between the figures. Atop the the tall base, the figure of Faith stands. She is draped in a stola and raises her near hand to the sky. The monument towers over Mertie West, who stands at left, below the figure of Education. Mertie faces towards the camera.
