In the foreground, a dozen gravestones stand on a hill that slightly slopes downward from left to right. A walkway enters frame from left and extends towards center behind the near section of the cemetery. At the end of the walkway at center, Mertie West stands in profile, facing right. To the right of her, a wrought-iron fence encircles a bronze tablet flanked by cannons. Gravestones dot the hills of the cemetery grounds in the background at left.
