Photograph of H. H. West drinking from the Pilgrim Spring fountain which stands outside the Plymouth Post Office Building. A sidewalk stretches along the bottom edge at an angle. The stone fountain stands off-center to the right, extending beyond the right frame. It is viewed at an angle from the front. Atop the fountain, an inscribed tablet rises from the center of the fountain. It reads, "PILGRIM SPRING ON THE MEERSTEAD SET OFF TO ELDER WILLIAM BREWSTER IN THE ORIGINAL ALLOTMENT DECEMBER 1620 ERECTED BY THE TOWN 1915 FREELY DRINK AND QUENCH YOUR THIRS[T] HERE DRANK THE PILGRIM FATHERS FIRS[T]." Below the tablet, a spigot extends from the front of the fountain's base. Immediately behind and to the left of the fountain, H. H. West stands hunched over the far side of the fountain and drinks. He faces towards camera but his head tilts downward. The brick exterior of the Post Office Building stands in partial view at right, extending out-of-frame. In the background at left, houses are visible lining Leyden Street.
