Photograph of Mr. [James] Robinson removing weeds growing from his driveway on North Ridgewood Place in Los Angeles. The camera looks towards North Ridgewood Place from a lawn. In the foreground, a walkway at left and a driveway at right stretch back towards the mid-ground, where North Ridgewood Place passes across the image. James Robinson stands hunched over in the driveway, just right-of-center. He faces towards the right and holds a shovel as he digs weeds out from between the central seam in the driveway. Lawns surround the paved areas and also stretch towards the street. At the base of the driveway at right, Tommie Newquist sits on a tricycle at center and faces camera. Two cars park along North Ridgewood Place in the mid-ground. On the far side of the street, two residences stand, facing camera. Behind them, other residential buildings are visible in the background. A streak of white stretches over the bottom edge.
According to: California State Library; Sacramento, California; Great Register of Voters, 1900-1968, for the year 1948, accessed through the Ancestry.com database, the Bacons, Newquists and Robinsons were neighbors of H. H. and Mertie West on North Ridgewood Place. The Wests lived at 830 North Ridgewood Place and the Bacons, Newquists and Robinsons lived at 836, 832 1/2 and 832 North Ridgewood Place, respectively.
