Photograph appears with the article, "Women Seek Police Jobs," Los Angeles Times, 11 Apr 1936: A8. During the exam there was a slight interruption from several juvenile department employees who claimed that they were angry because the tests were designed to create new positions rather than promote those already in service. Text from negative sleeve: 4966 - Exams for Police Women Belmont High 4/10/36 [stamped:] Apr 1936 Handwritten on negative: Exams for Police Women 4/19036 Text from newspaper caption: From this roomful of 252 applicants for civil service positions, several scores of policewomen will be selected for the Los Angeles force. They were photographed at Belmont High School, while answering questions on law, criminal procedure and juvenile delinquency prevention.
