Description
Scope/Content: Antiphonary manuscript written on parchment with black ink (words, notes), red ink (words, initials, lines), and blue ink (initials).
Scope/Content: Script: Gothic.
Scope/Content: Layout: square notes on 5-line staff; seven staves on each page.
Scope/Content: The text in the center of the first staff of leaf's recto appears to be the antiphon title Reges Tharsis et insulae.
Scope/Content: "Reges Tharsis et insulae ('Kings of Tarshish and the islands') is a common Latin motet and antiphon title. It is the beginning of the Latin Vulgate translation of Psalm 71:10 (Psalm 72 according to the Hebrew numbering). The wording was used in European cathedrals as a responsory for The Feast of Epiphany, 'The Day of the Three Kings,' and with slightly altered text as an antiphon for Epiphany."--Wikipedia.
Condition: Initial on fourth staff of recto is smeared and obscured; black ink on verso is significantly faded, many notes and words difficult to read.
