Title supplied by cataloger. Photograph caption dated February 9, 1964 reads, "Jim Houtz dives 284 feet into Devil's Hole to find bottom of seemingly bottomless pit near Death Valley junction." Devil's Hole is a volcanic fault at the base of a mountain on the eastern edge of Death Valley. Access to the hole requires climbing down a 100-foot sheer wall.
