Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph caption dated June 14, 1961 reads "There are oysters in the mountains." The article partially reads "High in the mountains overlooking Simi Valley, you can stand in an oyster bed and look down upon Santa Susana. Site of the bed, called the 'shell mine,' is a mountain 2,500 feet above sea level known as Gillibrand Ranch. The age of the oyster shell mountain is anybody's guess. It is certain, however, that it dates back hundreds of thousands--perhaps millions--of years, when this part of California was covered by ocean."
