Photograph of a view of Spring (Main?) Street in front of the Thirty-Eighth Fire Company Station during the celebration of the Centennial of American Independence, Los Angeles, 1876. The fire company has erected an archway which they have decorated with an American flag motif, the center of which sports what appears to be a picture of either George Washington or Thomas Jefferson. The date of independence, 1776, is displayed on the left, with the centennial year, 1876 on the right. Pedestrians fill the street to either side of the unpaved road, in which streetcar rails can be seen.
