Description
This circa 1961 postcard showcases Sutter's Fort's main entrance located on the northern side of L Street in Midtown Sacramento. The pictured entryway is draped with wisteria vines and beyond it lies a two-story adobe structure that was built between 1841-1843, making it the only original surviving structure in the State Park. The gate was affixed in 1961 and was replaced thirty years later by a more authentic gateway that used the lumber of downed redwood trees from Humbolt Redwoods State Park.
