Description
Photograph was edited for publication purposes.
Marine Karl Davies, 23, brought 'Brownie', a friendly mongrel pup all the way from Shanghai to Los Angeles, only to find he did not have enough money to ship her to his home in Philadelphia. After he departed with his unit, employees of the Union Passenger Terminal decided to ship Brownie to him, but the dog was lost while they were taking her to a veterinary for a health certificate. Luckily Brownie was located through the Herald-Express after a reader, Mrs. Leona Halliday of Palm Springs, posted a $25 reward, and also paid air freight charges to have the dog shipped by TWA air freight to Philadelphia.
Photograph caption dated November 15, 1947 reads, "Reunited, Thanks to Herald-Express and Reader."
