Redwood Utilization Study. Tree #30, a goose pen. The hole runs 20 feet into the butt log. At the 5 foot stump, the tree measured 102 inches. At 20 feet above the stump, the diameter was only 73 inches. Despite the large hole in the tree, there was very little rot above the butt log. Standing in the opening are G. P. Davies, who assisted in the study, and Orrin Barnes, one of the choppers. See also #4631 and 4633. July 1928, E.F
