Description: Black and white lantern slide showing a view of the road from Simla to Calcutta through the mountains. Simla was formerly the summer capital of the British Raj in India, and is now in West Bengal. Calcutta is now the capital of West Bengal state and was the capital of East India Company territories until 1911. This slide comes from a collection created by missionaries from Regions Beyond Missionary Union, an interdenominational Protestant evangelical mission working in northeast India (Bihar and Orissa) and Nepal.
