Description
Annotation translation: "Commentary to photographs 548a & b. The coffins with the half-decomposed corpses have been brought into the Balai. They are in the 'paddock'. The toekang hanteran, pamagah liau, which we can translate the leader of souls, guides them during the night with his ancient dajak songs. The funeral ceremonies have been organised at great cost in their honour, and they are escorted to the village of souls."
(Marianne Dubach-Vischer 08.2000)
Note translation: The flags are red and white and play a very important role. (Mariann Dubach-Vischer 08.2000).
