Description
Shown is a circa 1900 advertisement for the Bell Conservatory, located at Tenth and Y streets. Founded in 1881 by Margaret Crocker for 38,000 dollars, the structure was given its name - "bell" - because of the shape of its dome. Crocker wanted to grow fine flowers for those who couldn't afford to grow on their own for graves just across the street at the City Cemetery.
