In an effort to put an end to the peat bed fire that has been burning underground for the past four months on Hauser Blvd., W. E. Hoover is preparing to dig trenches in the burning area and flood them with water. Hoover was awarded a contract to extinguish the smouldering peat fire by the City Council at a cost not to exceed $1000. The photo shows J. C. Stecker on December 1, 1933, looking over the area, which, except for wisps of smoke pointed out by arrows, appears to be harmless. Actually the area is said to be a menace to persons walking across it.
