Photograph was edited for publication purposes New York International Airport opened in 1948. Commonly known as Idlewild Airport, it was renamed in 1963 in memory of John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, following his assassination. Photograph caption dated November 3, 1959 reads "San Fernando Valley community leader Mrs. Leo Hirsh is shown prior to boarding plane at New York's International Airport en route to Paris and Israel. Mrs. Hirsh lives at 4030 Longridge Ave., Sherman Oaks, and was named member of a United Jewish Appeal survey team. She is chairman of the local United Jewish Welfare Fund Women's Division 1956 campaign."
