Photograph caption dated April 30, 1927 reads, "Here is part of the throng which heard the competing high school student orators speak on different phases of "Unemployment; Causes and Remedies." Williams drew the subtopic, "The Causes and Extent of Unemployment," and in his extemporaneous talk covered the subject so comprehensively he was awarded first place. This is the second consecutive year that Lincoln high school has won The Evening Herald's big silver trophy."
