Photograph caption dated November 9, 1937 reads, "E. A. Moross with his scientific prospecting equipment greeting Geo. Grant who still uses this old familiar method of burros." A resident of Mosherville, Michigan, Ernest Moross was a pioneer American auto racer. At one time, Moross managed Barney Oldfield and oversaw the Indianapolis Speedway. In the late-1930s, Moross' prospecting equipment was valued at $50,000.
