Description
Mortimer Adler discusses his book, "Truth in Religion: The Plurality of Religions and the Unity of Truth: An Essay in the Philosophy of Religion." The book is about religion from a philosopher's point of view. He believes that people who argue for superiority of religions are apologists, and are not philosophical. Adler says that there are ten major religions in the world. The three of Western origin are: Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. The seven religions from the Far East are: Hinduism, two kinds of Buddhism, Sikhism, Taoism, Confucianism, and Shintoism. He states that the fundamentalists of the three major Western religions are wrong in their interpretation of scripture as literal. He says that by doing this, they make nonsense of it. An example he shares, is from the Book of Genesis, and the creation of the Earth.
