Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated May 16, 1963 partially reads, "A sand dune, lying anonymously in the barren east Antelope Valley, was in for it. A dozen members of the Sidewinders, a Lancaster "desert buggy" club, faced it with a stout wind in their faces, daring in their hearts and sand in their mouths. Their secret weapons are their "desert buggies," cut-down cars specially adapted to riding through sand and rough terrain. The 22 club members get their 16 buggies together on Sundays twice a month in unoccupied areas of the Antelope Valley for a day of family picnicking, racing and dune-climbing."
