Description
Written on back: "Xmas 1922. Merced River with ice in foreground. Last building to right is the Sentinal Hotel. Later years a part of The 'village and stores I think. By 1967 it now is probably torn down. I haven't been to Yosemite since 1962." Photo is one of several found in an envelope from Welch family labeled: "Snaps of stays in Yosemite -- Summer 1919 Xmas 1922 -- J.R., Mrs., Frances & Ione spent almost a week at the Sentinal Hotel on the Merced River. It was the first time Yosemite was open to the public in the winter. Train from S. J. to Merced, & to El Portal - then truck-like heavy bus on to the Hotel."
