Description
Benicia, the Solano County port city on the Carquinez Strait has had its ups and downs over the years. The cannery business is down now, as this picture indicates. The big frame structure was built on the waterfront in 1880 as a cannery for fruits from Suisun Valley. Later it was a fish cannery, but today it shows the effects of years of disuse and disrepair. Meantime, new industries flourish at the site of the phased-out Army Arsenal.
