Photograph caption dated September 3, 1958 reads "Karen Barger, 14-year-old queen of Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Water Carnival of 1958 steps down from simulated rocket ship to open show. With her royal septer (sic), Karen, 14540 La Maida St., Sherman Oaks, spurred carnival into action. Annual production was held in 160 by 60-foot Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks swimming pool and directed by Walter G. Jackson and Robert H. Morgan."
