This oak tree at the Catalina Verdugo adobe in Glendale was Mexican army commander General Andres Pico's camp site before he surrendered to John C. Fremont in 1847 at Cahuenga. Representing Fremont in the discussions with Andres Pico was his brother, Jesus Pico, who recommended that they surrender due to the size and strength of Fremont's army.
