Description
An article from the 1890 March 23 edition of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that a number of bonds for contract work and supply contracts for the front entrance building at the State Prison at San Quentin were received and approved by the Board of State Prison Directors. It also reports on the discussion over whether to allow convicts to work at the quarry and advertising for bids to take out the stone. The article goes on to discuss the Women's Christian Temperance Union's protest against selling intoxicating liquor in the vicinity of the prison and proposals for a dam to be built at the proposed site of the State Reformatory School at Ione.
