Description
Republican mural, Ardoyne Road, Ardoyne, 2001. Mural draws parallel between the Civil Rights struggle in the USA, specifically the desegregation of schools in Little Rock Arkansas in 1957, and the right of Catholic schoolchildren at to walk to Holy Cross primary school through a Protestant area. Detail: left panel, depiction of black schoolgirl, Elizabeth Eckford, one of the 'Little Rock Nine' (from a photograph by Will Couts), entering Central High, Little Rock, Arkansas, followed by an angry crowd protesting her presence; 'Arkansas 57'; black schoolchildren entering school, 'Arkansas 57 'It's Black and White'.
