Ozro W. Childs, a Protestant horticulturalist, was a founding father of The University of Southern California. His sprawling estate spanned from Main to Hill streets, and from Eleventh to Twelfth streets. It later became known as the "Huntington Purchase". The photo shows several clusters of women and children sitting on stairs and benches under huge shade trees throughout the gardens. Photo dated: 1908.
