The front row sits on the wooden dock, and the back row stands behind them. Eight of the men either wear or hold a sailor's hat. Behind them, the furled sails of three docked yachts are visible. In the extreme foreground, two rowboats are tied to the dock. In the background, another person is visible, and in the distance, the water stretches back to the shoreline, where a large white building and hills beyond are visible.
