Raymond Adame, 18, felt that Celina Jarmillo had put him under a spell, claiming, "She made me a sandwich of potatoes, beans and macaroni, and according to our legends, she bewitched me." Adame's feelings were so intense that they drove him to try to kidnap Jarmillo. During the attempt near 1427 E. Fourth Street, patrol officers heard Jarmillo's screams and took Adame into custody. He was booked at the Hollenbeck Station on suspicion of kidnapping. Photograph dated November 15, 1947.
