Decorated frieze with bas-reliefs surrounding the open-air bath, called a pond, with a lion figure standing on its hind quarters sculpted out of the living granite rock below it. The square pond, half of which is cut out of the live rock, measures 1.800 meters and has a depth of 2.100 meters. Surplus water is discharged through the mouth of the lion. The water was supplied by a channel from the Nāga Pokuna (Cobra pond) at a higher elevation. The pond is one of three major sources of water in Mihintale, which also included the Kaludiya Pokuna and Nāga Pokuna.
