Description
Title supplied by cataloger.
At 220 feet below sea level, the Salton Sea is an inland saline lake that covers a surface area of approximately 376 square miles. In the early 1800s, Salton Sea was mainly a salt mining location, in the 1920s it became somewhat of a tourist attraction due to its water recreation and the waterfowl that were attracted to this area.
Aerial view of the Salton Sea west shore; view is looking slightly northeast. The area looks completely barren with a road, possibly Highway 86, across the bottom left. Photograph dated January 28, 1958.
