Description
This 1939 photograph shows the marble altar of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, located at Eleventh and K streets. It was dedicated in October 1939 during a two-hour consecration as part of the Cathedral’s Golden Jubilee. Rites also included the sealing of relics into the altar, and the blessing of each of its parts, first with holy water, then with incense. The crucifix above the altar is mounted on a 6-ton piece of travertine marble.
