Description
Photograph was edited for publication purposes
Photograph article dated January 19, 1963 partially reads, "The steel structure, almost completed, rears 141 feet into the air, looking much like an out-dated space ship. Held by long steel cables, the structure is covered with an olive-colored padding. One portion of it is open at the bottom. The inside of the structure is deep and dark. The sign on the wooden fence in front of the structure, however, at 14421 Sherman Way, Van Nuys, gives the whole thing away: 'Property of Standard Oil Co. of California. No Trespassing...' the structure is only 'a snub derrick,' not a small rocket ship from another planet."
