Description
Photo caption printed in the Sacramento Bee on December 1, 1963 states: "Big Day at Folsom - This picture was taken in the courtyard of the county courthouse after Sacramento sheriff's officers returned from helping to squelch the bloody Thanksgiving Day riot of 1927 in Folsom Prison. The squad car, most modern of its kind in its day, had just been sold to the sheriff's office by Dudley Fortin, right, an agent for an automobile agency. It was able to travel so fast the Sacramento officers were the first to roll into the prison ground. Sitting on the bumper, left, was Deputy Sheriff Charles Ogle and standing, center right with the shotgun resting on the fender, was Sheriff Ellis Jones. The others, left to right, include Deputies Forest Beckley, Charles T. Wearn, Henry Bryant, and unidentified car salesman and Deputy Tom Connors. The picture was submitted by Wearn of 716 28th St., who retired in 1936 after 37 years as a deputy."
