Description
This 1945 photograph shows several businesses along J Street between 14th and 15th streets. Included - left to right - are Bode and Bode Keys, Gil Culver Photography Studio, Laybourn Cleaners and the Hotel Rene. Bode and Bode was founded by first-generation German-American Otto H. Bode. Sadly, he was found in a back room of the business in May of 1935, the apparent victim of a heart attack at the age of 39. In the background is the multi-story Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company operating building.
