Date: 1956-06-18. Reporter: Emery to Chuck Davis. Assignment: Hunt phantom voices in Centralia Street storm drain, Lakewood. 62/63: LA County Fire Dept. Battalion Chief W.A. Sherrill (with walkie-talkie) directs searching firemen deep in 4-foot, mile-long storm drain pipe as firemen and neighborhood youngsters listen for more 'voices from the dark.' 'There just plain aren't any kids in there,' Sherrill announced after hour's labors by 7 firemen & 3 Sheriff's deputies."
