Description
Photograph caption dated June 27, 1956 reads "Ted Hamilton, manager of Clay's Garage Valley semi-pro nine, inspects artificial leg of Bert Shepard, team member who pitched for Washington Senators a decade ago. As combat pilot in World War II, Shepard lost leg in plane crash, but Bert, who also packs potent wallop at plate, shows how adept he is at running bases, leaping for high throw to first, and sliding [pictured]."
